Warming-up to Study English BY M.Arief Saefudin

There are many ways to study English, but many students ask which is the most effective. Unfortunately, I don't think there is a single answer that is right for every student. However ... I can certainly give advice I some helpful guidelines as to how to study that should help.
Warming-up to Study English
Just as there are exercises to help you warm up before you play some basketball or other sport, there are exercises which can help you warm up to study English. Here are some simple exercises to help you warm up.
  • Study English I: Activating Your Vocabulary
Activate your vocabulary by thinking or speaking briefly about the subject you are about to work on. For example, if you are going to study English on topics that focuses on vacations, take a moment to think about your last vacation, what you did, what you enjoyed, etc. This simple exercise will help your brain warm-up to vocabulary that you are likely to encounter as you study English about this particular subject.
  • Study English II: Activating Your Grammar
Activate your grammar by thinking about the general grammar area before you begin to study. For example, if you are going to study English grammar focusing on the past, stop to think about what you did last weekend, where you went, etc. to help activate what you already understand about using the past. As with activating vocabulary, you'll help your brain bring up what it knows about the past simple in an easy way before you begin to focus on studying English grammar in detail.
  • Study English III: Singing a Song
Before class begins, or before you sit down to study English sing a song in English to yourself. Make sure to use a song that you understand and know very well. This short and fun exercise will help your brain focus on the English language in a relaxing manner. It's important to be relaxed when you study English! Singing a song also helps activate the creative side of your brain which can help you come up with more examples as your practice conversation or do some creative writing.
  • Study English IV: Typing e a Short Paragraph in English
If you going to study English at your desk, begin by typing a simple paragraph in English. You can type about your day, your hobbies, your friends, etc. Anything will do. Typing helps activate the kinetic part of your brain that helps improve learning through physical activity. I also recommend typing while you study your English grammar. This will help solidify your knowledge with movement.
  • Study English V: A Thousand Words ...
As the saying goes in English: A picture is worth a thousand words. Help activate the creative side of your brain by trying to describe a photo or other image. You can combine use this also to activate your vocabulary by choosing a picture that has something to do with the subject your are going to study in English.
Study English - Tips for Success
Here are some tips for success to help you as you study English.
  • Study English Every Day
It's important to study English every day. However, don't exaggerate! Study for thirty minutes every day instead of two hours once a week. Short, steady practice is much better for learning than long periods on an irregular basis. This habit of studying English every day will help keep English in your brain fresh.
  • Study English Using Different Methods to Learn
Don't just use one way to study English. Use a variety of methods which will help all the parts of your brain (multiple intelligences) help you. For example, if you are learning new vocabulary, create a word map, describe a picture, make a list and study that, type out the words five times. All of these methods together help to reinforce your learning.
  • Study English by Finding some Friends
There is nothing like having a few friends to study English together. You can practice the exercises together, have conversations together (in English!), and, as you study English together, help each other with exercises you may not understand.
  • Study English by Choosing Topics that Interest You
One of the most important things to do is to study English using topics that you like. This will help motivate you because you will also be learning about a topic you find interesting while you study English.

A pilgrimage is a journey or search of moral or spiritual significance. Typically, it is a journey to a shrine or other location of importance to a person's beliefs and faith, although sometimes it can be a metaphorical journey into someone's own beliefs. Many religions attach spiritual importance to particular places: the place of birth or death of founders or saints, or to the place of their "calling" or spiritual awakening, or of their connection (visual or verbal) with the divine, to locations where miracles were performed or witnessed, or locations where a deity is said to live or be "housed," or any site that is seen to have special spiritual powers. Such sites may be commemorated with shrines or temples that devotees are encouraged to visit for their own spiritual benefit: to be healed or have questions answered or to achieve some other spiritual benefit. A person who makes such a journey is called a pilgrim. As a common human experience, pilgrimage has been proposed as a Jungian archetype by Wallace Clift and Jean Dalby Clift.[1]

The Holy Land acts as a focal point for the pilgrimages of the Abrahamic religions of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. According to a Stockholm University study in 2011, these pilgrims visit the Holy Land to touch and see physical manifestations of their faith, confirm their beliefs in the holy context with collective excitation, and connect personally to the Holy Land.[2]

In the early 21st century the numbers of people of all faiths making pilgrimages has continued to rise, with 39 of the most popular sites alone receiving an estimated 200 million visitors every year.[3] There is a growing awareness within the major faith organisations that fulfilling the spiritual obligations of pilgrimage may paradoxically conflict with the spiritual obligation to care for the natural world. In response to these concerns a global Green Pilgrimage Network[4] was inaugurated in 2011,[5] with municipal and religious authorities from Bahá'í, Buddhist, Christian, Daoist, Islamic, Jewish, Shinto and Sikh sacred sites committing to the shared goal of minimising the environmental impact of pilgrims and, ultimately, achieving a 'positive footprint' for pilgrimage. In 2012 an India Chapter of the Green Pilgrimage Network was launched, with a further ten Buddhist, Hindu, Islamic and Sikh pilgrimage sites from across India.

How To Learn English Effectively Always study and review phrases, not individual words. BY PURWANTO

Balas ke semua [A]

How To Learn English Effectively

Have you ever tried to study English, but it turned out way too difficult for you? Well, let me tell you that the language of Shakespeare and Austen is easy once you keep in mind these 7 golden rules:

1. Always study and review phrases, not individual words.
Did somebody give you a dictionary when you started learning your native language as a child? No? Then why do you keep using it when studying a foreign language? Memorizing individual words has absolutely no sense without the context. Learning whole phrases is much more effective. For example, take the word “cantankerous” (meaning “disagreeable and ill-mannered”) - if you tried to memorize it just as it is, you probably wouldn't succeed. But if you put it into a sentence, e.g. “that grumpy cantankerous old man” it's bound to stay in your mind forever.

2. Don’t study grammar.
Cramming grammar is the quickest way to slow down your progress. When you start thinking about what construction to use, you begin to stammer, stop sounding natural. Your responses should become automatic to master the language, so instead of studying theory – take more practice! When you speak, you don't have time for considering what tense is appropriate, one hundred per cent correct. Grammar is important in writing, not in speaking.

3. Learn with your ears, not with your eyes.
One of the most common mistakes when studying a foreign language is relying solely on textbooks. Thanks to them you may know a lot of grammar and vocabulary, but you're still not capable of conducting a conversation. It is because you should learn English by listening and not by reading. If you listen more, you'll grasp useful vocabulary and grammar without even realizing it and without memorizing!

4. Learn English deeply.
Remember it's always about quality, not about quantity. Instead of learning dozens of new words in a short time, try repeating one, but dozens of times. When memorizing the phrases (remember the first rule!) slowly, you put them into the deeper parts of your brain so they don't fade away quickly.

5. Learn grammar by “point-of-view” stories.
Never learn grammar by heart. Instead listen to short stories that are told in various tenses. This way you will improve your grammar automatically and naturally. For example, if a story begins: “I don't like banana but I want to eat one”, the other stories would be like “I didn't like bananas but I wanted to eat one” and “I won't like bananas but I will want to eat one”. (The last sentence may sound a bit silly, but doesn't matter so much. In fact, we tend to learn strange and funny things easier.)

6. Use only authentic English materials.
Throw away any textbooks you possess! Practice your English by reading and listening to “real stuff” - unabridged and unsimplified versions of books, movies and podcasts. There's a lot of free materials for students of English who want to improve their language skills naturally, for example BBC or CNN podcasts.

7. Listen and answer, not listen and repeat.
A variety of English textbooks employs this completely useless method: “repeat after the speaker...”. You should answer the questions asked by the speaker instead of mindlessly retelling his words. If you practice listening with a podcast or a video, pause it every 20 – 30 second and summarize what has been said. You have to think quickly, so you stop bothering yourself with useless grammar and start to speak the real, living language! Maybe you have already heard or thought about these rules but now the time has come to put them into practice! Print and hang them on your fridge and, most importantly, act accordingly. I assure you that your English is going to improve in no time.

Surabaya,Radaronline
(Harifin)

Do not Focus Learning Grammar BY RUDY FAHRIZAL

Do not Focus Learning Grammar

How to learn the English language comes from English learning system Effortles made by Mr. AJ Hoge, sistembelajar for people who are feeling desperate with English language skills disappointing but already spent time and money to learn English. Here are ways to Effective Learning English is:

1.To use methods Short Stories Listen and Respond
(Listen and Answer Min Story) instead of Hearing and repeat (Listen and Repeat).
With hearing and answering methods (Question of the story) we have to think think and have to answer quickly. Methods of learning English that often we get so far is Hearing and repeat (Listen and repeat), for example, we once listened to the learning of the English language tapes, we repeat what we hear, and it was not enough because it only copies the conversation.
So what exactly Listen and Answer Mini Story?
Recording mini story (briefly) in English interspersed many easy questions, but constant, rapidly. So do not have time to think about grammar. Thus trained to talk, quickly and automatically.

2. Do not Focus Learning Grammar
Learngrammarlikememorizinggrammar/tenseswillmakeusalwaysthink ofthese ruleswhen engaged in conversation. So thatour wordsbecomenautralsometimes evenstammer. Whilewe wanttolearndefinitelywant tobe ableto use itineveryday lifeseamlesslyandnaturally.
  3. Use themethod ofHearing(Listening)
Tounderstandthe English languagewehaveheard a lot. Stop readingTestBook(English textbooks) becausethe existingmaterialsin thetextbooksactually veryrarelyused ineverydayconversationand starthearingwhateverthatwas deliveredin English. Learnbyearrather than byeye.

  4. In-depth learning
Learn in depth to be able to talk easily. Learn every word, every phrase in depth in order to really stored in memory, not only understand / remember the meaning or learning just for the exam. Learn quickly just to make us quickly forget what they have learned.

5.Listen Short Story same Presented by Time (tenses) Different (Point Of View Stories)
Diaturan 2 do not learn the rules of grammar, even so we should still be able to use correct grammar.

Sohow wherehow?
Learngrammarnaturally.
Do Ihearashort storyin the English languageisthe same, butdelivered using thetime(tense) different, the story iscalledPointOf ViewStories.

Example: Firstheardstoriesthatuse thePresentTenseEveryday, After havingthoroughlyunderstoodandattachedin mind, heard thesame storyagainbutusing thePast Tense(And so on usingdifferenttenses).
6.StudyEnglishlanguage actuallyis notEnglishTextBook(based on the book)
Have friendslearn Englishfor severalyears, butstillproblematicto understandthe words oftheEnglish?

Actuallyweare notwrong, itis alearningmethodthatwe useforthisissimplyto learn EnglishbyBooks(Text book ofEnglish). Thereforewehave to learn theEnglish language thatis not really aTextBook(albeit deliveredin acassetteorCD).

Learning materialsbased on the book, not the same asthatusedineveryday life.
To be able to understand what British people to say / tell , then we have to do what they usually do . Listen to what others have to , watch what they used to watch , read what others have read . Egtv , radio , movies , radio talk shows , audio books , audio English language article
