Officer
Reports to: Project Coordinator
Works with: Other team members in the JRS Medan IDC Project, local
networks and partners.
Organization: Jesuit Refugee Service Indonesia
Duty Station: Medan, North Sumatra

Position Purpose:
The Information-Advocacy Officer works under the
coordination of the Project Coordinator of the Medan IDC Project. S/he
regularly visits people held in the Immigration Detention Center. In
collaboration with the Project Coordinator the Information-Advocacy Officer
implements, monitors and evaluates the project activities to ensure protection
needs of asylum seekers and refugees held in detention are met. S/he ensures
activities and capacities of the staff members are inline with the spirit of
JRS when providing daily services.
Responsibilities:
The Information-Advocacy Officer is responsible for
preparing and conducting meetings with other stakeholders, representing the JRS
IDC project, facilitating team meetings, supporting the team with networking
and guidance to ensure better accompanyment, services and advocacy based on
real needs.S/he provides information on available support systems. S/he records
and clarifies concerns, delegates advocacy related tasks, attends external
meetings, monitors and reports regularly on the progress of the team to the
project and country office of JRS. S/he will establish and continue
constructive and thrustworthy relations with all stakeholders involved and use
these relations to promote the rights of asylum seekers and refugees in
immigration detention by encouraging compassion for their situation. S/he will
support research efforts and engage potential external stakeholders like
volunteers, Universities, religious groups and local organisations that could
support or take over the work of JRS by sharing experiences and knowledge with
them.
Qualifications
& Experience:
    * BA degree, preferably in law, social or political science, development studies, human rights, communication or other related to the job.
    * Experiences in social work / NGOs accompanying forcibly displaced people, refugees and asylum seekers that experience limited freedom of movement.
    * Good listening skills and patience.
    * Understanding and empathy with forcibly displaced people, IDPs and refugees.
    * Be willing and motivated to learn more about asylum and refugee issues and their rights.
    * Good communication skills within a team and with people from different cultural background
    * Ability to manage sensitive information
    * Have experiences and skills as facilitator, moderator and motivator
    * Good analytical skills, knowledge and experience in conducting research to promote rights
    * Experience in documenting and writing for advocacy purposes
    * Experience dealing with Government authorities and other agencies
    * Good English and Indonesian skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing
    * High flexibility, creativity and highly motivated to service
    * Knowledge of basic Microsoft programs is a must. Knowledge in layout and design of documents is a strong advantage
    * Mature and well prepared to work in demanding conditions and able to work under pressure and high frequency of mobility
    * Indonesian nationality.

Background Organization and Programme:
The Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS)
is an international non-governmental organization with a mission to accompany,
serve, and advocate the rights of refugees and forcibly displaced people. JRS
undertakes services at national and regional levels with the support of an
international office in Rome.
Founded in November 1980 as a work of the Society of Jesus, JRS programs are
found in over 50 countries, providing assistance to refugees in refugee camps,
to people displaced within their own country, and to asylum-seekers in cities
and held in detention. The main areas of work are in the fields of Education,
Advocacy, Emergency Assistance, Pastoral, Health and Nutrition, Income
Generating Activities and Social Services.

In choosing and implementing programmes, JRS places an emphasis on the
knowledge in root causes, policy and prevention and in all programmes aims to
find and advocate for durable solutions for refugees, asylum seekers and IDPs.
JRS gives direct services, accompanying the displaced and assisting them to
advocate for their rights.

    * Ready to be placed at Penajam or Santan, Kalimantan
    * Having good administration and communication skill
    * Familiar with warehousing for oil & gas industry
    * Computer literate
